Cranepedia - Dump truck is a tool used to move material on middle distance to long distance (500 meters or more). Cargo is loaded by means of loading, whereas to unpack its contents, this tool can work alone (see here). Judging from the large cargo, dump truck can be grouped into two (2) categories, namely:
- Dump Truck On High Way, the load is less than 20 m3.
- Off High Way Dump Truck, larger cargo of 20 m3.
When the truck is used to transport timber is usually called Logging Truck Trailers or no use. For type on High Way Dump Truck anyone using the front and rear wheel drive (four wheel drive), there are also only comes with rear-wheel drive only (rear wheel drive).
As for the type off the High Way Dump Truck differences as follows:
- Power Train, Simple, front mounted engine driving the rear wheels, mechanical or electrical.
- Weight distribution, Expenses under the rear truck. At full load, 67% load is at the rear wheels (4 tires) and 33% to the front wheels. In the empty load load distribution is 50: 50.
- Grade Ability, Has a high load power ratio, can pass up the slope ratio of 18%.
- Maneuverability, Well, have a short wheel base making it easier to maneuver.
- Robustness, structures suitable for tough working conditions and heavy shock loads.
- Material types, all sizes of stone. A material with a high density gives a good weight distribution.
- Dumping, Good on the location of dumping, the hopper requires maneuvering backwards, dumping time ranges from 40-60 seconds.
- Loading, loading height high Having thus rather difficult loading the front and loaders such as wheel loader or a track loader.
- Breaking, Good, the short distance between the axle that has a tendency to skid on a slippery road.
Selection Truck
Preferred truck capacity must be balanced by means of his loader (loader), if the ratio is less proportionally, it is possible that the loader is much waiting or otherwise. Which meant that the comparison between the capacity of truck and loader capacity is 4-5: 1, or in other words the capacity of truck 4-5 times the capacity of the loader. This comparison will also affect the loading time (loading time). Some considerations (profit and loss) that must be considered in the selection of truck size is as follows:

a. Small Truck
The advantage with using a small-sized trucks are as follows:
- More agile in operation.
- Easier to operate.
- More flexibility in transporting close range.
- Consideration of the work simpler.
- Adjustments to the ability of the loader easier.
- If one truck in the transport unit does not work, will not be problematic to total production.
While the loss is as follows:
- More time is lost, due to the many trucks that operate, particularly when loading (loading).
- Excavator more difficult to load because of small tubs.
- More drivers are needed.
- Higher maintenance costs because more trucks, as well as maintenance personnel.
b. Large Truck
The advantage with using large trucks are as follows:
- For the same capacity with a small truck, the number of large trucks less.
- The driver or crew used less.
- Suitable for long-distance transport.
- Loading of the loader easier so that less time is lost.
While the loss is as follows:
- Road work should be considered because of road damage relatively quickly due to heavy large truck.
- Operation is more difficult because of their large size.
- The production will be greatly reduced if one truck is not the road (for a relatively small amount).
- Maintenance is more difficult to implement.
Hope it is useful :)
